Police rushed to the scene on Saturday morning amid reports of a suspect armed with a knife. Commentators on social media described the incident with one claiming the situation appeared to be a “major incident”.
Local Brett Grady added: “Major incident in Woolwich.
“Armed police on scene trained on suspect lying on back of truck!! Likely terror incident.”
Another reported a suspect was seen with a knife.
The A205 Woolwich New Road is closed in both directions and Woolwich High street has also been closed due to the incident.
