She also appeared in the sequel Still Open All Hours when it returned in 2013. Lynda was also BBC children’s favourite Auntie Mabel in 1990s programme Come Outside. Her agent of nearly 30 years Donna French said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved client Lynda Baron.”
“Renowned for her leading roles in West End musicals and dramatic productions, we have lost a leading light of our world. We extend deepest condolences to her daughter Sarah, son Morgan and all her family.”
Speaking two years ago about Open All Hours, Lynda revealed: “Working with Ronnie Barker and David Jason was unbelievable – two great actors in a brilliantly scripted sitcom. There was never a day we did not have a great laugh ourselves.”
Lynda was also in sitcom Oh No It’s Selwyn Froggitt, EastEnders as the mum of Jane Beale and had parts in Doctor Who, Last Of The Summer Wine and Dinnerladies.
She was nominated for a Bafta in 2011 for her role in The Road To Coronation Street on BBC Four, a drama about the early days of the soap.
