A new Lidl could be coming to Cribbs Causeway as part of a wider plan to develop a new housing estate in the area, but nearby residents are concerned about the proposals.
A planning application, submitted by Lidl and a company called Cribbs Triangle, seeks permission to build the supermarket on a triangular patch of land between the railway line, Station Road and A4018.
It would come with car parking for more than 100 vehicles, including 22 spaces with electric vehicle charging, and cycle parking for 12 bikes.

The German supermarket chain currently has 10 stores in Bristol, with a few more nearby in South Gloucestershire and towards the Somerset border.
And the proposal for the new supermarket, which would create 40 new jobs, is part of a major plan to build a neighbourhood known as Berwick Green.
Developers hope to create 1,000 new homes, a primary school and other community facilities on fields in Cribbs Causeway. An outline plan for this was granted in January 2021.
But several people have objected to the plans for the new supermarket.
Heather Cameron, a public open space officer at South Gloucestershire Council, criticised the proposals for the new Lidl on the basis that it would interfere with the developer’s other plans to create nearby open space and a children’s play area.

Ms Cameron said: “This is unacceptable. The absence of landscaping only adds to the terrible setting this would provide for the play area and POS (public open space). The POS and play area would not be the enjoyable green space for the residents that it should be.”
The officer also claimed that the plan is not environmentally friendly, as “not one tree is proposed as part of the application”.
However, the developer’s plan states that the store would not encroach into the nearby open space, and it wouldn’t affect the established area of trees and hedgerow either.

Local residents have also objected to the plans, with several voicing concerns about traffic.
One person, Theresa Hicks, said: “It is going to be absolute bedlam. The road can’t cope with the traffic now.
“One way systems causing more problems. Maybe there should be a mini roundabout or lights at the other end of crow lane. Congestion is bad enough now. Roads are absolutely crazy here as it is.”
Another, Nicola Chapman, said: “We are supposed to be looking after the environment not killing it!!! Where is all the wildlife going? Is this area now going to be called a concrete jungle?”
Bristol Live has contacted developers Deeley Freed for comment and is awaiting a response.
