This is a worrying surge from the 26,852 cases reported yesterday.
This time last week, 29,612 cases were recorded.
Which areas are experiencing the highest case rates in the UK?
Case rates are shown per 100,000 people for the 7-day period up to August 13.

The UK average shows a far better picture.
The vast majority of areas in the Uk are experiencing case rates of around 100 to 199 positive cases per 100,000.
The area with the lowest case rate in the UK is currently the Shetland Islands.
Just 10 cases were recorded here in the seven days to August 13 according to the latest government statistics.

The latest daily figure for Covid deaths is 111.
This is a marked decline from yesterday’s numbers as 170 deaths were recorded within 28 days of a positive covid test.
Worryingly this was the highest figure recorded on one day since 12 March.
But there is some positive news, almost 90% of adults have now had one dose of the vaccine, and more than 77percent have had their second.
