EasyJet prepares for Bristol Airport’s busiest weekend of the year

Nearly 10,000 travellers will be flying from Bristol Airport with EasyJet this weekend in the airport’s busiest weekend of the year so far.

With the arrival of school summer holidays across the UK, the airline will be carrying thousands of passengers to green and amber destinations across Europe.

Since Monday, July 19, when the majority of covid restrictions were scrapped in England in what was dubbed ‘Freedom Day’, fully-vaccinated UK residents are now able to travel to amber list countries without having to quarantine upon their return.

EasyJet said in a statement: “In total, there will be over 80 easyJet flights taking to the skies, connecting passengers from Bristol Airport to some of Europe’s key summer hotspots.

“Popular flight destinations include Mallorca, Tenerife, Malaga, and Alicante in Spain, Athens and Corfu in Greece, Split in Croatia and Lisbon in Portugal.

“A recent survey showed that 61 per cent of Brits say they are much more likely to want to travel abroad once they have been double jabbed with the research revealing that travel was a major reason in (47 per cent) driving their decision to get vaccinated.”

The statement added that, for holidaymakers seeking the sun, flights from Bristol include destinations such as Corfu, Alicante and Tenerife. For culture-seekers looking for a city break escape, easyJet is offering low fares from Bristol to Athens and Lisbon.

Ali Gayward, EasyJet’s UK country manager, said: “With schools breaking up for summer this weekend sees the busiest weekend so far this year and we are looking forward to taking as many people as we can on that long-awaited and well-deserved trip, or to reunite them with their loved ones.”

The news comes on the same week EasyJet announced a new route from Bristol Airport to a popular holiday spot will open up this winter.

As of November 3, travellers will be able to journey to Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt – a destination famed for year-round sunshine, pristine beaches, and mountain backdrop.

A covid testing centre has also opened at Bristol Airport as international travel starts to open up.
