The evening flight at Bristol International Balloon Fiesta today (August 11) has been cancelled due to the weather forecast.
Balloons were expected to fly across the city this evening after this morning’s stunning spectacle, but expected high winds have forced organisers to reverse their plans.
A Twitter post from Bristol Balloon Fiesta reads: “After consulting the weather wizards, we’re afraid the wind speeds are getting too high for safe flying this evening.

“But what an amazing morning we had today!
“To fly from five locations, all at the same time… that’s a bit of Balloon Fiesta history!”
It is not yet known if there will be an ascent tomorrow. Pilots are expected to meet at 6pm to discuss the possibility.
This morning, balloons were launched from Queen Square, Hanham Common in Hanham, Merchants’ Academy in Withywood and Bridge Learning Campus in Hartcliffe, marking the first ever multi-site ascent the city has seen.
A favourite among locals was a giant yellow balloon based on Stuart the Minion, from the popular Despicable Me movies.
Operated by Bristol-based Airship and Balloon Company, the special shape is nearly 50 times the height of a real ‘Stuart’ and weighs in at 210kg.
Approximately 122,000 real minions could fit in the envelope of the balloon – and his goggles are longer and wider in diameter than a family estate car.
To make Stuart fly, he is filled with 105,000 cubic feet of hot air, with his goggles, arms and feet inflated internally.
A series of precisely located holes and baffles provide shape and form by guiding the hot air around his features, ensuring that they inflate.
